A dental filling is required when there is a hole in the tooth, mainly caused by decay, however small fractures or chips may also require a filling.
What to expect
The procedure for a dental filling is performed by the dentist who first removes decay from the tooth using a drill. The dentist will then prepare that spot for the ‘filling’ to be inserted. The last step that can be performed by either the dentist or by a restorative dental hygienist. He or she will fill the space with bonding or resin and shape it to mimic natural tooth indentations.
